Sorry - Couldn't help myself on the last reply.

Actually that is not a bad idea at all - question is what should it go to, who would decide ?

Should the Alumni ask the school what project they have that needs help ($ wise) or should we just give it directly to the school to do with as they wish.

Do we make it a requirement that some type of Acknowledgment to the Alumni has to be made ?

What does everyone else think of this idea ?

Good idea. I would also offer an option of making a larger one time donation instead of a small annual gift.
My preference would be to have the scholarship awarded to a well rounded student (not necessarily an academic or athletic superstar) with financial need. And I don't think it should be limited to children of alumni.

Absolutely.  I received a scholarship (I believe it was for $1,000) from HHS (I can't remember the specific name of the scholarship unfortunately) towards college and it was a great help to me and my parents.  I would be happy to contribute towards a new scholarship fund for other students.  I would love to see community involvement/volunteering be considered as criteria in addition to merit and financial need.  I think it really depends on what other scholarships are available, as I know there are a lot (at least there used to be when I graduated over 10 years ago).

Dear Alumni

We are always delighted to give another scholarship.  We certainly can include one for 2010.  We award them at Senior Awards Night rather than at graduation now.  We do have a scholarship committee who can select the recipient.  An alumni could not join that group.  However, you can decide the recipient yourselves if you prefer.  If you wanted to give your own scholarship, we would need a form and criteria.  There is a way we can provide financial information.  However, if you want us to select the recipient, we have a form.  You can tell us the criteria you want us to use.  That is typically the way most groups do it.

Thanks for thinking of this.  In these difficult economic times, we are delighted to be able to offer more scholarship money to our graduates.
